About me

I am a freelance translator, wife and mom to a busy 13 year old boy.

Where it all started

Our home language is Afrikaans. When my son went to school, he could not speak a word of English.

After attending an English school for the past 8 years, my son can no longer speak any Afrikaans. We still speak Afrikaans to him, but he replies in English. You would think he would still do well in Afrikaans at school, right?

WRONG!!

He homeschools, so I get to see what he has to learn. I have come to realise that he does not know the basic rules of plurals, conjunctions etc. in Afrikaans. Upon speaking to some of his friends’ parents, I realised that this is the common thread.

Since I have been a full-time freelance translator for the past 22 years, my friends started prompting me to create this course.

I tried, and will continue to try, to make it as comprehensible to teens and tweens as possible. I had a lot of fun with the creation (and had to LEARN a lot!!), so I hope the learners enjoy it as much.
